The root cause of so much suffering in the cat community is the overpopulation of unwanted cats. Every year, countless cats are born into a cycle of neglect, abandonment, and hardship. Many face unspeakable suffering as a result of unchecked breeding among stray, feral, and community cats. Facilities like ours, Carbon County Friends of Animals, are overwhelmed by the results of this crisis. We are the downstream recipients of a problem that begins upstream—uncontrolled reproduction.
The solution is clear: spay and neuter your cats. For friendly cats, this means taking action to ensure they are fixed before contributing to the population crisis. For feral or unadoptable cats, it means participating in Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) programs, which allow these cats to live out their lives without adding to the problem.
We urge you to be part of the solution. Cats intersect with all of our lives, whether they are our pets, strays in our neighborhoods, or feral cats in our communities. Borrow or buy humane traps, contact local low-cost spay and neuter organizations (see our list below ), and take steps to address this issue at its source.
